Semax
A heptapeptide developed in Russia from an ACTH fragment — used as a nootropic and for stroke recovery in Russian clinical practice.
Why it matters
Semax is a synthetic peptide based on a fragment of adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH 4-10). It increases BDNF, modulates dopamine and serotonin, and is approved in Russia for cognitive impairment and stroke recovery. In Western markets it operates in the research-peptide category.
In practice
Typical use is intranasal at 250–600mcg per administration. Effects are reported acutely (within an hour) — alertness, mood elevation, reduced perception of fatigue.
Common confusion
Semax is sometimes compared to modafinil. The mechanism is entirely different; the subjective category overlap is partial.
