CBD topical

A CBD-infused cream, balm, lotion, or salve applied to the skin — works locally rather than systemically.

Why it matters

Topicals act on cannabinoid receptors and other targets in the skin and underlying tissue rather than entering the bloodstream in meaningful amounts. They are used for localised muscle soreness, joint inflammation, and certain skin conditions.

In practice

A useful topical needs sufficient CBD per gram (typically 3–10mg/mL or higher), an effective delivery base (lipid-rich, sometimes with penetration enhancers), and the same COA discipline as ingestible CBD. Transdermal patches are a separate category that does aim at systemic absorption.

Common confusion

CBD topicals are sometimes pitched as systemic CBD without the oral discomfort. They do not deliver systemic doses — the skin is mostly a barrier.
