Why it matters
HHC is produced by hydrogenating the double bonds in THC, similar in chemistry to converting vegetable oil to margarine. The hydrogenation removes the double bond targeted by oxidation, making the molecule shelf-stable and resistant to degradation. HHC binds CB1 with affinity comparable to delta-9-THC and produces broadly similar effects.
In practice
In hemp-derived markets HHC has appeared in vape cartridges, edibles, and flower-spray products. Effects are reported to fall between delta-8 and delta-9 in intensity, with a duration somewhat shorter.
Common confusion
HHC is sometimes pitched as not detectable on drug tests. That depends on the specific test — newer drug screens can detect HHC and its metabolites.
