PT-141

RESEARCH PEPTIDES · GLOSSARY ENTRY

PT-141 (Bremelanotide)

A melanocortin receptor agonist derived from melanotan-2 — FDA-approved as Vyleesi for hypoactive sexual desire disorder in premenopausal women.

Why it matters

PT-141 is the active component refined from Melanotan-2 research. It acts as a non-selective agonist at MC3R and MC4R, triggering sexual arousal pathways in the central nervous system. FDA approval (2019) as Vyleesi is for premenopausal women with HSDD; off-label use in men for erectile concerns is common.

In practice

Approved dose is 1.75mg subcutaneously, on demand. Side effects include nausea, flushing, headache, and transient blood pressure changes.

Common confusion

PT-141 is not a PDE-5 inhibitor like sildenafil — it acts centrally on desire rather than peripherally on vascular response.
