Alpha-GPC
A bioavailable choline source that crosses the blood-brain barrier efficiently — common in racetam stacks and as a stand-alone cognitive supplement.
Why it matters
Alpha-glycerophosphocholine occurs naturally in milk and small amounts in the brain. Supplementation raises plasma choline and increases acetylcholine synthesis. Clinical evidence includes improvements in cognitive function in mild dementia and in physical performance (growth hormone response, power output) in healthy adults.
In practice
Typical doses are 300–600mg per administration. Stacking with racetams is the standard nootropic application; standalone use for power-output benefit (lifting, sprinting) is the standard sports application.
Common confusion
A 2020 large cohort study raised concerns about long-term cardiovascular effects from very high chronic alpha-GPC intake. The clinical relevance for typical supplement doses is debated.
