CBD half-life

The time required for plasma CBD concentration to fall to half its peak — typically 1.4 to 10 hours depending on route, with single-dose intranasal/vape on the shorter end and chronic oral on the longer end.

Why it matters

CBD pharmacokinetics are complex. After a single oral dose, the terminal half-life is roughly 1–2 days; after chronic dosing, accumulation in adipose tissue extends the elimination half-life further. Vape and intranasal routes show shorter plasma half-lives because they bypass the slow distribution phase.

In practice

For dose-timing purposes, the relevant figure is the duration of subjective effect, not the half-life. Sublingual CBD typically produces effects for 4–8 hours; oral capsule effects can persist 6–12 hours.

Common confusion

“Long half-life means more potent” is wrong — half-life affects the persistence of plasma CBD, not the per-dose effect intensity.
