Linalool

A floral monoterpene also found in lavender — associated with calming, sleep-promoting effects in cannabis cultivars where it appears.

Why it matters

Linalool is best known as the dominant terpene in lavender essential oil. In cannabis it usually appears at lower concentrations than myrcene or limonene, but cultivars with measurable linalool tend to be marketed for sleep or anxiety. Animal studies show anxiolytic, anticonvulsant, and sedative effects.

In practice

Linalool-leaning cannabis cultivars overlap heavily with high-myrcene cultivars — the two compound the relaxing direction. For sleep applications a linalool + CBN + low-dose THC stack is common in commercial sleep formulations.

Common confusion

Lavender aroma in cannabis does not guarantee linalool presence; some other floral terpenes can produce similar scents.
