Why it matters
Rosin is produced by pressing cannabis between heated plates. The resin squeezes out as a translucent amber concentrate. No solvents are involved, which appeals to consumers who want a cleaner, less industrial extract. Quality scales with the input material — flower rosin, hash rosin, and “live rosin” (from fresh-frozen hash) sit on a quality and price ladder.
In practice
Live rosin is the premium concentrate tier in legal markets. It preserves more terpene than live resin and avoids residual hydrocarbon concerns. Dab consumers and high-end vape cartridge buyers are the main market.
Common confusion
Rosin is sometimes confused with rosin tech (the method) and with colophony (the unrelated wood-derived resin). In cannabis context, “rosin” specifically means solventless press extract.
